Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Roshni ka Safar collects when you use our website (roshnikasafar.org) and our mobile app, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep the app free to read, and we collect as little as we can.

Who we are

Roshni ka Safar (“we”, “us”) is a family Qur’an-reading project based in Pakistan. For any privacy question you can reach us at imatifdar@gmail.com.

What we collect

Reading the Qur’an, the translations, and the quizzes works without an account and does not require any personal information. You only share data when you choose to create an account and use the community and sync features.

Information you give us

Account details — your email address, a password (stored only as a secure one-way hash, never in plain text), and an optional display name.
Reflections you post — the text of any reflection you share on a ruku. These are public to other readers (see “Sharing” below).
Private notes — personal notes you save on a ruku, visible only to you.

Information created as you use the app

Reading progress — which rukus you have opened and your last position, so we can show your progress and let you continue where you left off across devices.
Quiz results — your best score per quiz.
Notifications — a record of replies to your reflections, to show your bell.
Link taps — when you tap a link out to our TikTok, we log that it happened so we can understand which content readers enjoy.
Sign-in token — when you sign in on the app, we store a random login token on your device and in our database so you stay signed in. It is not your password.
App analytics & diagnostics — through Google Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics) we collect app-usage events (for example, which screens or rukus are opened) and crash and performance reports that include your device model, operating system version, and app version. This helps us find bugs and improve the app. It is not used for advertising and is not linked to any advertising identifier.
Push notification token — if you allow notifications, a push token for your device is stored so we can alert you when someone replies to your reflection. (Daily reading reminders stay on your device — see “Reminders” below.)

Purchases

If you unlock the full journey through an in-app purchase, the payment is processed by Google Play (Android) or the Apple App Store (iOS). We receive confirmation that the purchase was made; we never receive or store your card or bank details.

Reminders

If you turn on the daily reading reminder, that schedule is stored on your device and used to show a local notification. It is not sent to our servers.

How we use your information

To provide the reader, save your progress, and sync it across your devices;
To let you post and read community reflections and receive replies;
To keep you signed in and keep your account secure;
To understand, in aggregate, which content readers find useful and improve the app.

We do not sell your personal information, we do not show third-party advertising, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. We use Google Firebase only for our own app analytics and crash reporting, as described above and under “Third-party services” below.

Reflections are public. Any reflection you post on a ruku is visible to other signed-in readers, shown next to your display name. Please don’t include private or sensitive information in a reflection. Your email, private notes, reading progress and quiz scores are never shown to other readers.

We share personal information only where necessary to run the service (for example, our web hosting provider stores our database on our behalf), or where the law requires it.

Third-party services

Google Firebase — we use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics (Google) for in-app usage analytics and crash reporting, and Firebase/Apple push services to send reflection-reply notifications. Google processes this data on our behalf. See Google’s Privacy Policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
Recitation audio is streamed from everyayah.com when you tap “Listen”. Requesting audio reveals your device’s IP address to that provider, as with any website.
Google Play and the Apple App Store handle app distribution and any in-app purchases on Android and iOS respectively.
Instagram, TikTok and YouTube — links open these apps or your browser; each service’s own privacy policy applies once you leave our app.
Web hosting — our site and database are hosted by our hosting provider.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and associated data at any time — see our Account & Data Deletion page. When an account is deleted, its reflections, notes, reading progress, quiz scores, notifications and login tokens are removed from our database.

Children

Roshni ka Safar is made for families to read together. Accounts are intended to be created by a parent or adult. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child without a parent’s involvement. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

Your choices & rights

You can read, quiz and use the app with no account at all.
You can edit or delete a reflection you posted.
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data by emailing us.
